Jake Campbell and
Paul Escher, five Oles ran top 13 times in Division III in the 1500 on Friday night.
The Phil Esten Challenge set the stage for national caliber performances as both Campbell and Escher stormed under the previous fastest time of 3:48.51 set by Evan Molineux earlier this season. Â Campbell was ultimately victorious with a time of 3:45.73, but Escher was not far behind in 3:46.42. Â The fastest time from the 2014 Division III outdoor season was 3:45.19, ran by McKena Ramos who now competes at the Division I level for the University of Wisconsin.
Campbell and Escher also broke the 35 year old St. Olaf school record previously held by Mike Palmquist at 3:47.84.
Joe Coffey,
Jacob Eggers and
Phillip Meyer finished closely behind in a pack placing fourth, fifth and sixth. Â All ran personal bests, and now hold the eighth, ninth and 13th spots in the 1500 among Division III athletes. Â Coffey crossed the line in 3:52.16, followed closely by Eggers (3:52.39) and Meyer (3:52.96).
Eric Mueller competed in the 3000 steeplechase, placing fourteenth in a time of 10:13.11. Â
The Oles have a competition tomorrow at Carleton, completing their trio of consecutive meets.
