CANTON, NY. - The St. Olaf men's track and field team sent eight athletes to compete at the 2015 Outdoor Track and Field Division III National Championships.Thursday (Day one):
Phillip Meyer finished fifth in the 10000 meter final on Thursday night, finishing with a time of 30:59.97. Â Meyer ran between second and fifth for the first eight kilometers, then used a late surge to come back to fifth after falling back to eighth place. Â Ian LaMere of UW-Platteville was the Individual champion, edging out Bijan Mazaheri of Williams College to win the event by .008 seconds. Â Carleton's Hart Horner earned All-American honors along with Meyer as he finished in third. Â
The Oles qualified an impressive five athletes to the finals of the 1500 meters to be held at 12:40 p.m. CT on Saturday. Â In heat one, Joe Coffey was an automatic qualifier after finishing third, and Sean Bjork qualified on time as he finished seventh in the heat, and twelfth overall. Â Jake Campbell led the Oles in heat two, winning the heat in 3:54.40. Â Paul Escher and Grant Wintheiser also claimed automatic qualifiers by finishing third and fourth in the heat. Â Jacob Eggers missed the final qualifying spot by just over two seconds, as he finished his impressive sophomore season with a 3:57.73. Â Eggers' seed time of 3:50.18 was the 19th fastest time in Division III competition this year.
Jake Brown took second in his heat of the 3000 meter steeplechase to qualify for the finals to be contested at 11:50 a.m. CT on Saturday. Â Brown's time of 9:11.45 was the third fastest time between the two heats.

Saturday (Day three):

Paul Escher claimed his second national title as he won the 1500 meter finals on Saturday afternoon. Â Escher led a field of 12 into the final lap that included four other St. Olaf athletes. Â Charlie Marquardt of Haverford College was the runner-up to Escher. Â Jake Campbell and Grant Wintheiser joined Escher as All-Americans as they finished third and eighth respectively. Â Sophomores Joe Coffey and Sean Bjork crossed the line in tenth and eleventh overall.
Jake Brown finished his St. Olaf career as an All-American in the 3000 meter steeplechase by placing third in the finals. Â Brown's time of 9:01.43 beats his career best by four seconds. Â Dawson Miller was the undisputed national champion, as he won the event by over 10 seconds.
Campbell doubled back in the 5000, finishing 15th with a time of 15:02.53. Â Josh Thorson of UW-Eau Claire won the event with a 14:10.29.
As a team, the Oles finished in fifth place with 27 points. Â UW-La Crosse was the team champion with 68 total points
