Jake Campbell and Jacob Gursky each won an event for the Oles as the St. Thomas men's track team opened its season at The Opener at St. Thomas this Friday.
Campbell led a pack of four Ole runners to the four fastest indoor mile times in Division III competition this year. Â Campbell won the mile in a personal best time of 4:08.66, but the race was closely contested by
Joe Coffey (4:09.66) and
Paul Escher (4:11.94). Â
Sean Bjork followed in fourth place with a time of 4:18.39.
In the pole vault, Gursky cleared a height of 3.80 meters on his third and final attempt to win the event.
Nick Woods led the Oles in the throws with fifth and seventh place finishes in the shot put and weight throws respectively. Â Wood amassed a distance of 14.45m in the shot and 13.89m in the weight throw.
St. Olaf returns to the track next Friday in a triangular meet against Carleton and Hamline.
