Jake Campbell broke a 37-year old school record in the mile on Saturday afternoon with his winning time of 4:07.52 among mostly Division I participants in the University of Nebraska's Frank Sevinge Husker Invitational.
Campbell's win came against runners from Division I Auburn, Illinois, Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas, South Dakota State, and a few Division II schools.
The previous St. Olaf school record was held by Mike Palmquist, who ran 4:07.9 in 1979.
Paul Escher was right behind Campbell, placing second in the race with a time of 4:08.48.
Jacob Eggers ran a career best while placing ninth (4:14.88).
Joe Coffey finished 11th in the heat with a time of 4:16.44.
Sean Bjork also traveled with the team to Lincoln to race the 800 meters. Bjork finished tenth with a season best time of 1:54.57.
The Oles compete next at the Tommie Showcase on Friday at the University of St. Thomas.
