James McFarlin and
Tayler Aarness both captured an individual victory as the St. Olaf men's track and field team competed at the Tom Cat Twilight meet on Thursday afternoon at the University of St. Thomas.
McFarlin won the 400 meter dash with a sub-50 time of 49.59, holding off runner up Shane Streich of Minnesota. Â Aarness ran a season best of 4:06.14 in the 1500 to win the event.
The 4x100 meter relay team from St. Olaf won the meet with a time of 45.29. Â The team consisted of
Logan Weiss,
Kyle Leemon,
Garrett Beaman and
Joe Pugh.
St. Olaf had success in the jumping events as
Jacob Gurskey finished fifth in the pole vault (4.10 meters) and Robbie Holmes was third in the 400 meter hurdles in 57.87. Â Also in the pole vault were
Eli Knutson (8th - 3.50 meters) and
Chris Frick (9th - 3.05 meters). Â Knutson and Frick competed in the high jump as well, both clearing 1.61 meters.
Nick Woods doubled in the throwing events with a 14.49 meter toss in the shot put and 42.59 meter hammer throw.
The Oles had a batch of athletes competing in the 3000 meter steeplechase. Â
Thomas Lerdall set the pace for the Oles with a third place finish in 10:08.97, followed by
Dan Buchmeier in 10:40.45. Â
William Anderson was close behind Buchmeier in 10:43.59 and
Nick Dea closed in 11:17.93.
The Oles have three athletes competing at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, and the rest of the team will be racing next on Saturday at Concordia-St. Paul.Â
