Men's Track and Field

St. Olaf competes at Carleton

Results

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The St. Olaf men's track and field team crossed the Cannon on Saturday afternoon for a meet hosted at Carleton's Laird Stadium.

The competition marked the second consecutive meet for the Oles, as a small platoon of athletes competed at the Phil Esten Challenge last night in La Crosse, Wis.  Results from that meet can be found here.

The Oles started the day off strong with two consecutive victories coming from Adam Wood in the 10,000 and Paul Timm in the 3000 meter steeplechase.  In the 10K, Henry Burt led most of the race before Wood took over in the final third of the race to post a winning time of 33:04.68.  Burt finished less than ten seconds behind in 33:13.10.  Timm won the steeple with a time of 9:46.94, holding off a closing St. Thomas athlete to win the race wire to wire.  Thomas Lerdall and Eric Bakken also notched MIAC conference qualifying times in the steeple finishing in 9:59.86 and 10:01.76.

Aaron Stets returned to the track after a weeklong hiatus from competition to run in the 400 and the 4x400 relay.  A 51.12 mark in the open 400 put him in twelfth overall behind teammates James McFarlin (3rd - 48.83) and Kevin Skrip (4th - 49.16).  Austin Redfield set a PR in the 400 with a sub-52 time of 51.72.

The hurdles were effortless for Robby Holmes, who breezed to a season-best time of 57.20 to finish ninth in the competitive field.

Keith Ketola made his return to the track after missing the indoor season with an injury to run the 1500.  Ketola finished second in his heat with a final time of 4:10.81.  William Anderson and Alexander Berhe were the top two finishers for the Oles in the even with times of 4:06.82 and 4:09.86.

From the field events, Ethan Lunning posted a ninth place finish in the hammer throw, tossing the ball and chain a distance of 45.53 meters.  Nick Woods threw 43.43 and Nathan Kurtz-Enko hit 38.04 meters.

The Oles will compete again on Thursday for the Macalester Twilight meet in St. Paul.
