ST. JOSEPH, Minn. - The St. Olaf men's track and field team competed against St. Thomas and Saint Johns in the annual Meet of Saints hosted by the University of Saint Johns on Saturday afternoon.
St. Olaf had two event winners on the day with
Kevin Skrip winning a competitive 800 field in a new collegiate best and
Spencer Castillo pulling away in the 5K to win the event with a time of 16:11.64. Â Skrip won the 800 with a time of 1:53.76, leading a trio of Oles to the top three podium spots with
Joe Coffey in second (1:54.67) and
Paul Escher in third (1:56.17). Â
Brian Klein (5th - 16:27.45) and
Andrew Plumb (6th - 16:29.04) followed Castillo in the 5K.
Logan Weiss and Adam Kaiser competed in the 100 meter dash for the Oles, finishing in 10th and 13th with times of 11.42 and 11.59 respectively.
In the throwing events
Nathan Kurtz-Enko and
Nick Woods competed in all three weight throwing events. Â Kurtz-Enko threw 14.04 meters in the shot, 28.97 meters in the discus, and 37.57 meters in the hammer. Â Woods threw 13.51 for the shot, 36.24 in the discus, and 42.63 for the hammer throw. Â Randall Rude wielded the javelin, and threw a distance of 31.58 meters.
Trevor Stewart and
Chris Frick competed in the long jump, with distances of 6.09 and 5.70 meters respectively. Â Kaiser doubled back in the triple jump, completing a distance of 12.11 meters.
The Oles finished with a total of 86 points in the triangular meet, behind Saint John's and St. Thomas who finished with 148 and 145 points respectively.
St. Olaf will return to the University of Saint John's for the MIAC Championships next weekend.
