Andrew Schmiesing was a standout in both baseball and football for the Oles, earning multiple All-MIAC honors in both sports at St. Olaf.

A two-time All-MIAC and two-time First Team All-Region selection in baseball, Schmiesing was also a Second Team ABCA/Rawlings All-America pick in 2007 after hitting .446 with 18 doubles, six triples, seven home runs, 40 RBI and 52 runs.

To this day, he ranks in the baseball program’s top six in batting average (3rd, .396), runs (t-5th, 128), hits (6th, 173), home runs (t-6th, 17) and triples (t-6th, 10).

On the diamond, St. Olaf went a combined 83-47 overall and 44-16 in the MIAC in his three seasons, winning the MIAC Playoffs in 2006 and advancing to the NCAA regionals in 2006 and 2007.

Schmiesing was selected in the 11th round (362nd overall) of the 2007 Major League Baseball (MLB) Draft by the Minnesota Twins, making him St. Olaf’s highest-ever draft pick at the time. He was the first Minnesotan taken in the draft that year.

In football, Schmiesing was a three-time Second Team All-MIAC selection. He ranks third in program history in receiving touchdowns (26) and fifth in both receptions (148) and receiving yards (2,384).

St. Olaf won eight games in each of Schmiesing’s final three seasons on the gridiron and was 31-9 over his career.
