A captain of all three sports he played, John Klaers was a standout soccer, hockey and baseball player at St. Olaf. He earned 10 varsity letters, four in hockey and three each in soccer and baseball. Klaers was an All-MIAC selection as a senior in hockey. In 25 games that season, he collected 41 points on 15 goals and 26 assists. He was second in the MIAC in points, with 12 goals and 20 assists in 16 league games. The Oles were 8-6-2 in conference action to qualify for the MIAC playoffs as the No. 4 seed. As a junior, he had 35 points on 12 goals and 23 assists as the Oles went 15-9-1. St. Olaf was 9-6-1 in the MIAC with Klaers collecting seven goals and 16 assists. He was a captain of the baseball team in his final season, one that saw the Oles go 16-3 in league play for a MIAC regular season title. St. Olaf reached the NCAA Midwest Regional, where Klaers went 5-for-9 over his final two games. He hit .330 as a junior and .282 as a senior. Klaers was a back fielder for the men’s soccer team. He had a goal and three assists in his final season, when the Oles went 7-3-0 in league play and 13-4-0 overall.
