Steve Ryan was a two-sport standout at St. Olaf. He was a conference MVP in football and an All-MIAC baseball player, helping lead the Oles to three straight conference titles. As a wide receiver Ryan, the 2000 MIAC Offensive Player of the Year, is sprinkled all over the St. Olaf record book. He was a four-time All-MIAC selection, and was a Lutheran Brotherhood All-America selection as a junior. He is third in career receptions (152), career touchdowns (24) and second in career yards (2,618). He has the fourth and fifth best single season marks for receptions (53 in 2000, 52 in 2001) and yards (948 in 2001 and 901 in 2000). He is one of only three in school history with 200-plus yards in a game, as he caught eight passes for 207 yards and a pair of scores in a win at Saint John’s in September of 2001. Ryan was a key ingredient to a group that helped St. Olaf go from 4-16 in the two years before he arrived to 13-7 in his final two seasons. His baseball numbers were equally as impressive. Ryan was a three-time All-MIAC pick as St. Olaf won MIAC titles in each of his final three seasons going 53-7 in league play. He was a career .342 hitter, with 123 runs in just over 400 career at bats. His 13 career triples rank second all-time, while his 123 runs are seventh and his 144 hits rank 16th. His best season was his final campaign, when he hit .391 with 10 extra base hits and 32 runs. Ryan has worked with E Group, a Minneapolis-based marketing firm for the last 11 years. He and his wife Karin, parents of 2 daughters Chelsea and Greta, reside in Bloomington.
