NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The St. Olaf College Athletic Department inducted its inaugural class of 127 student-athletes into the Minnesota Epsilon Chapter of Chi Alpha Sigma – the national collegiate student-athlete honor society – on Monday evening at Skoglund Center.
St. Olaf's 127 inductees represented all 26 of the college's varsity athletics programs and were formally inducted in a ceremony that included speakers President David Anderson '74, athletic director Ryan Bowles, head men's cross country and track and field coach
Brian Power, and three-sport alumnus and 2022 Winter Olympian Jake Brown '15.
Chi Alpha Sigma recognizes college student-athletes who participate in a sport at the varsity intercollegiate level, achieve junior academic standing or higher after their fifth full-time semester, and earn a 3.4 or higher cumulative grade-point average.
Established in 1996, Chi Alpha Sigma is a non-profit organization that recognizes college student-athletes who excel both on and off the field of competition and is the first and only academic fraternity that specifically honors four-year collegiate student-athletes for their athletic and academic successes.
Formed in November with Power as its advisor, St. Olaf's chapter of Chi Alpha Sigma is the fifth in the state of Minnesota, along with those at the University of Minnesota Morris, Augsburg University, the College of St. Scholastica, and St. Catherine University.
