Rachael Sushner completed her third season as the head women's soccer coach at St. Olaf in 2018 after being named to the position on Feb. 1, 2016. In the spring of 2016, she was also named Senior Woman Administrator in the department.
Sushner has led the Oles to back-to-back appearance in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Playoffs in 2017 and 2018 after the program had not made the MIAC Playoffs since 2013. Through three seasons, Sushner's record at St. Olaf stands at 27-21-4 (.558), which includes a mark of 17-13-3 (.561) in the MIAC.
In her three seasons, Sushner has coached seven All-MIAC selections, five Honorable Mention All-MIAC picks and three United Soccer Coaches All-North Region honorees. Her teams have also collected the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award in each of the past two seasons and three Oles have been named to the United Coaches Scholar All-North/Central Region Teams in Sushner's three seasons.
Sushner served as assistant coach at Division III Washington and Lee for the previous three seasons, where the Generals posted a 45-8-3 record in the span. She was an assistant coach at Clarkson University for two seasons before her stint at W&L. Sushner started her career as an assistant at Wellesley College.Â
A Division III student-athlete at Skidmore College, Sushner was the Liberty League Rookie of the Year, an all-conference selection and a first team all-region selection for the women's soccer team. She was a four-year starter, captain as a senior and played one season for the professional Boston Breakers reserve team in 2010.Â
Sushner, a native of Potomac, Md., is a 2009 graduate of Skidmore, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in business and sociology. She picked up a Master of Business Administration from Clarkson.Â
