NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The St. Olaf baseball team was defeated by Carleton College in its home opener doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon 6-2 and 10-5.
Game 1: Carleton 6, St. Olaf 2Carleton's Hayden Tsutsui led off the series with a homerun giving the Knights an early lead. Brendon Fischel scored off a Ben Frerichs double to make it 2-0 at the top of the second inning.
Tim Maus scored for the Oles off a Carleton error in the third inning to bring them within one of the Knights. Frerichs stayed hot and hit a two-run homer to put Carleton up 4-1in the fourth inning. Maus scored again off a
Joe Keiski double in the seventh to bring St. Olaf to their final run count of two.
St. Olaf had four hits to Carleton's seven.
Luke Dahl started on the mound for St. Olaf and pitched 5.1 innings striking out six and walking four.
Game 2: Carleton 10, St. Olaf 5The Knights got off to another quick start in the first inning with a Willie Freimuth RBI double and a Griffin Bolte RBI single to take the 2-0 lead. St. Olaf got its first run in the fifth inning off a
Ryan Iverson RBI groundout to make it Carleton 7, St. Olaf 1. The Oles rallied in the sixth coming within four of the Knights, but Carleton had a productivie seventh inning scoring two more to go up 10-4.
The Oles were led in hits by Maus with three. Iverson had two RBIs. St. Olaf had three fielding errors to Carleton's one.
The Oles will be back at home on Thursday as they host UW-Stout at 3:30 p.m.
