STEVENS POINT, Wis. - A scoreless overtime period resulted in a 4-4 tie between St. Olaf (1-0-1) and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (0-1-1) on Saturday.
Six of the eight goals in the game were scored in the second period. After a
Riley Anderson goal in the first period gave the Oles the lead, the Pointers' Ali Biagini scored 34 seconds into the second frame to even it up. The Oles regained the lead when
Xandi Swedberg scored 26 seconds later. A
Jane Vezina goal in the 11th minute of the period improved the Ole lead to 3-1.
13:44 into the second period, Mackenzie Kratch scored on a power play for the Pointers. Her goal was followed up 42 second later by a goal from Ellie Punnett, tying the game. 36 seconds after Punnett tied it up, Alex Grubbs scored to give the Pointers their first lead of the game at 4-3. In a minute and 18 seconds of game time, the Oles went from leading by two to trailing by one.
The Oles took advantage of a power play in the third period with a goal by
Molly Andrews to tie the game at 4-4, in what would turn out to be the final score of the game.
This is the first time in six seasons that the Ole women have played the Pointers to a tie, with the last time being a 1-1 draw in the second game of the 2011-12 season.
Next up for the Ole women is a road game at Augsburg on Saturday.
