ST. PAUL, Minn. - St. Thomas defeated St. Olaf 2-1 in game one before an 8-1 victory in the second as the Tommies swept St. Olaf in a MIAC-opening doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Koch Diamond.

Game One: St. Thomas 2, St. Olaf 1
The Oles stranded 12 baserunners as UST held off a late rally in the first game. Down 2-0, the Oles loaded the bases but did not score in the fifth. St. Olaf got an RBI fielder's choice from Travis Peterson in the sixth inning. 

Jake Mathison limited the Tommies to four hits and one earned run in a seven inning complete game loss. He struck out five and walked three in the loss.

Zach Gottfredsen was 1-for-2 and scored twice for the Tommies.

Game Two: St. Thomas 8, St. Olaf 1
Jake Smith was 2-for-4 with a three-run homer as St. Thomas raced to a 4-0 first inning lead on the way to the sweep. Sam Cobbs, Hunter Hart and Logan Kohorst had two hits as well for UST.

Mitch Larson worked eight innings, striking out 10 and walking one in the win for UST.

Dylan Blake was 2-for-4 for the Oles in the loss.
