ST. PAUL, Minn. - St. Olaf won the opener 5-2 before Macalester College won the second game 3-2 in 11 innings to walk off to a MIAC softball series split and, in the process, end the Oles' four-game winning streak.
Game One: St. Olaf 5, Macalester 2
Julie Graf struck out 10, walked one, while going 2-for-4 with an RBI in the game one win.
Kate Arneson also went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Julie Carpenter went 2-for-4 and stole a base in the loss for Mac.
Game Two: Macalester 3, St. Olaf 2 (11 Inn.)
The Scots' placed runner scored on a Kaela Jackson single through the left side as Macalester defeated the Oles 3-2. The Scots escaped danger in the ninth, 10th and 11th innings. St. Olaf stranded five runners over the final three frames and had a runner thrown out at home in the 10th.
St. Olaf stranded 16 runners in the loss. The Oles had 11 hits, led by
Emily Carr's 3-for-5 effort. Arneson,
Alison Curry and
Lucy Fuller were each 2-for-5 in the loss.
Nikki Caicedo hit a solo homer for Macalester.
Graf struck out 12 to run her school record total to 254.
St. Olaf will host Augsburg on Sunday at 11 a.m. at home if weather permits or at the Dundas Dome.
