NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The St. Olaf baseball team used a six-run inning to defeat Augsburg College 7-6 in game two to pick up a MIAC series split with the Auggies in the season finale.
Game One: Augsburg 5, St. Olaf 3
The Auggies overcame an early 3-0 deficit with a run in the fourth, two in the fifth and two more in the sixth. Eric Olheiser was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for the Auggies.
Luke Dahl was 1-for-2 with a double, walk and RBI for the Oles. St. Olaf scored twice in the first and once in the second to get a 3-0 lead. Starter
Jake Mathison cruised into the fourth untouched before the Auggies scored a run on a triple and double.Â
Mathison struck out six and walked two in the loss.Â
Game Two: St. Olaf 7, Augsburg 6
Mathison had two hits in the Oles' six-run fifth inning as the Oles rallied from a 4-0 deficit to gain a split. The Oles had six hits in the fifth, sparked by a two-run double by
Sam Stuckmayer and a
Luke Dahl RBI double. Mathison led off the inning with a double.
Augsburg outhit the Oles 13-8, but the St. Olaf pitching staff allowed only two runs over the final six innings.Â
Will Gustafson worked four innings of relief, allowing four hits and no walks while striking out two to get the win.Â
St. Olaf finishes the season 16-23 overall and 7-13 in MIAC play. The Oles won five of their last six.Â
