ST. PAUL, Minn. - St. Olaf scored thrice in the third period, but St. Catherine University held on for a 5-3 MIAC women's hockey victory over the visiting Oles on Friday night.
Jane Vezina scored twice for the Oles (2-8-3, 1-4-2 MIAC), who trailed 5-1 late in the third period.
Mary Kate Eiden and Vezina scored inside the final three minutes to get the Oles within striking distance, but SCU held on for the win.
Emilee Anderson had two goals and an assist for SCU, which led 3-0 in a game that was scoreless for the first 22-plus minutes. Brede Postier and Anderson scored at 2:21 and 3:17 of the second to get SCU a 2-0 lead. In the sixth minute of the third period, Mackenzie Ess scored to give the Wildcats (2-11-0, 1-6-0 MIAC) a three-goal lead.Â
Vezina scored at the 10:00 mark of the the final period, on an assist from
Johanna Glaaser, to get the Oles on the board. She had a remarkable 13 shots in the loss for the Oles, who had a 36-25 edge in shots.Â
The teams close out the home-and-home MIAC series tomorrow at Northfield Ice Arena at 3:30 p.m.
