NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Augsburg University edged the St. Olaf College women's soccer team, 2-0, after breaking the deadlock in the 52
nd minute with a goal from Jada Olson and doubled the score in the 56
th minute with a goal from Nicole Ryan in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) contest Saturday afternoon.
Before the game St. Olaf honored its four seniors,
Kaylyn Billmeyer,
Sarah Guezmir,
Madisen Heckmann and
Emily Lecy for their hard work and dedication over the last four years.
Olson broke the deadlock in the 52nd minute after taking a couple dribbles in from the left side of the field and then sent the ball to the back of the net with a shot outside the box in the center of the field. Less than four minutes later Ryan doubled the score after a pass from Jessy Wiskofske from the right side of the field as Augsburg (12-6-0, 8-3-0 MIAC) took a 2-0 advantage over St. Olaf (10-5-2, 6-4-1 MIAC).
The Oles had two early chances in the first half with back-to-back shots from junior
Mackenzie Schoustra and senior
Claire Bash, but both were shots were sent above the goal. In the 23
rd minute Emily Chapman grabbed a save from Schoustra to keep the score even at 0-0. First year
Greta Anderson sent in a corner kick in the second half with less than 30 minutes remaining in the game to give St. Olaf an opportunity to score, but the
Kaylyn Billmeyer's shot landed just wide of the goal.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Brynne Davis posted six saves in the game while Schoustra and Bash recorded three shots and one shot on goal apiece. Augsburg had 23 shots in the game including eight shots on goal while St. Olaf had 14 shots and seven on goal.
The Oles are back to action Tuesday, Oct. 30 at 2 p.m. as they travel to Minneapolis, Minn. to face Augsburg in the quarterfinals of the MIAC playoffs after earning the No. 6 seed in the tournament. The winner of the game will play at No. 2 Bethel on Wednesday, Oct. 31 at 2 p.m.
