ST. PAUL, Minn. – The St. Olaf College women's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to five games with a 0-0 tie at Macalester College in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play on Saturday at Macalester Stadium.
St. Olaf (7-2-2, 4-1-2 MIAC) and Macalester (2-5-3, 0-3-3 MIAC) each managed four shots on goal over the 110-minute match, as the Oles settled for their first scoreless tie in over three years. Prior to Saturday, the last time a St. Olaf game ended 0-0 was a Sept. 23, 2015 contest against UW-Eau Claire at Rolf Mellby Field.
Sophomore
Brynne Davis and the Ole defense recorded its fifth shutout of the season through 11 matches, holding Macalester to seven shots total in the game. In 10 starts this season, Davis is 6-2-2 with a 0.70 goals-against average in over 900 minutes in net.
First-year
Greta Anderson had two of St. Olaf's four shots on goal in the game, while senior
Kaylyn Billmeyer and sophomore
Rose Sandell each had one. Kayla Togneri matched Davis with four saves to keep the Oles out.
St. Olaf had four shots in each half and four more in the second overtime and came close to snatching the three points early in the second extra session. After her initial effort was blocked, reigning MIAC Player of the Week
Mackenzie Schoustra's right-footed shot from just inside the box went about a foot wide of the right post.
The Oles return home to Rolf Mellby Field to face crosstown-rival Carleton College on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 4 p.m.
