Vezina's hat trick leads women's hockey to 5-3 win over Bethel

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The St. Olaf women's hockey team (4-15-3, 3-10-2 MIAC) defeated Bethel University (8-12-2, 4-9-2 MIAC) on Friday night by a final score of 5-3 at Northfield Ice Arena.

Jane Vezina led the Oles with three goals and an assist. Vezina's hat trick brought her season goal total to a team leading 14. 

Xandi Swedberg and Mary Kate Eiden each scored a goal of their own. Swedberg led St. Olaf with two assists to bring her season total to a team high nine.

Kaitlyn VanTassel gave the Royals their only lead of the night with the sole goal of the first period.

In the second frame, Eiden, Vezina, and Swedberg each scored to give the Oles a 3-1 lead going into the third.

Bethel cut St. Olaf's lead in half when Wendy Roberts scored with 11:31 remaining in regulation. Vezina proceeded to score back-to-back goals to net her hat trick and give the Oles a three goal lead with 1:44 remaining. The Royal's Kennedi Mitchell scored wih a single second left, but it was too little too late as the Oles snapped their four game losing streak and got their third conference win of the season.

Next up for the Oles is a trip to Bethel to close out the two game series on Saturday.
