Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Schoustra's goal gives women's soccer first win of season

OSHKOSH, Wis. – A 72nd-minute goal from junior Mackenzie Schoustra was the difference as the St. Olaf College women's soccer team blanked UW-Oshkosh by a 1-0 score on Saturday afternoon at J.J. Keller Field.

Schoustra broke the deadlock with the game's only goal in the 72nd minute off an assist from senior Emily Lecy to give St. Olaf (1-1-1) its first victory of the fall. Sophomore Brynne Davis only had two saves to make in the game to keep UW-Oshkosh (1-1-1) off the board with her first shutout of the young season.

The victory was St. Olaf's third in the last four meetings with UW-Oshkosh and evened the all-time series at three wins apiece. All three of the Oles' games this season have been decided by one goal or fewer.

Schoustra accounted for five of her team's seven shots on goal in the game, providing the difference with her 72nd-minute game-winner from 18 yards out. Erin Toomey stopped the other six shots she faced for the Titans but took the loss.

UW-Oshkosh's Delaney Karl nearly gave her team an early lead, but saw her shot come back off the cross bar in the 12th minute. Toomey had made a pair of saves to deny Kaylyn Billmeyer and Rose Sandell prior to Karl's near miss.

The two teams combined for just three corner kicks in the game. St. Olaf held a slender 12-11 advantage in shots in the game, but held a 7-2 edge in shots on goal.

St. Olaf finishes its weekend in Oshkosh by facing St. Norbert College on Sunday, Sept. 9 at 1 p.m.
