Women's soccer blanks Concordia, 3-0, in season finale

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The St. Olaf College women's soccer team scored once in the first half and added two goals in the second half to defeat Concordia College (Minn.), 3-0, in its season finale on Saturday at Rolf Mellby Field.

After first year Tessa Anderson Anderson scored her eighth goal of the season in the first half for St. Olaf (8-8-2, 5-5-1 MIAC), senior Mackenzie Schoustra and sophomore Lucia Ranallo added second-half goals for the Oles. St. Olaf had 33 shots in the contest, while holding Concordia (9-9-0, 2-9-0 MIAC) to nine.

Seven different Oles recorded shots in the first half, including sophomore Grace Maxwell, who shot just wide of the goal off a cross from classmate Hayley Hoffmann in the sixth minute. In the 32nd minute, Maxwell got the ball wide to Anderson on the left and the first year got past two Cobbers' defenders before firing the ball inside the right post from the top of the box to break the deadlock.

Concordia came close to tying the game in the 38th minute, when goalkeeper Erin Larsen sent the ball up the middle to Karsen Granning, but junior Brynne Davis made a diving save to keep the Cobbers off the board and preserve St. Olaf's lead at the half.

Shcoustra doubled St. Olaf's advantage in the 52nd minute, rounding the goalkeeper and finishing with her left foot after being played in behind the Concordia defense by Hoffmann.

Less than 20 minutes later, Ranallo closed out the scoring with her first goal of the season, touching the ball in from close range after the Concordia keeper could not hold a corner by senior Katie Brumley.

Davis made six saves to help the Oles record their first shutout of the season and earn her seventh win of the year.
