NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Sophomore
Grace Boswell-Healey stopped a career-high 46 shots for the St. Olaf College women's hockey team in a 3-0 loss to visiting Augsburg University in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play on Friday evening at St. Olaf Ice Arena.
Boswell-Healey made at least 13 saves in each period for St. Olaf (0-10-0, 0-5-0 MIAC), but Augsburg (4-3-0, 2-3-0 MIAC) scored once in each period to post the shutout victory. Mackenzie Molnar, Nikki Nightengale and Katie Flynn netted goals for the Auggies in the win.
St. Olaf generated three scoring chances in the opening 11 minutes of the game but was unable to find the back of the net. Six and a half minutes in, Annie Juergens denied sophomore
Annika Patterson on a breakaway and, moments later, Boswell-Healey made back-to-back saves as the goaltenders kept the game scoreless early on.
Midway through the first, senior
Johanna Glaaser set up junior
Mary Kate Eiden in front but her effort was saved by Juergens. The Auggies eventually broke through on an unassisted goal by Molnar at 17:57, as the Augsburg defenseman fired the puck into the roof of the net from a sharp angle on the right for her first of the year.
Just 40 seconds into the second period, Augsburg doubled its lead on an unassisted tally by Nightengale, who collected the puck near the left boards, dragged the puck past a defender and beat Boswell-Healey from close range for her first goal of the season.
Katie Flynn capped the scoring for the Auggies at 3:14 of the third period, firing home a rebound after Hollywood Hermanson's puck fell to her stick after hitting the post. Juergens stopped all 11 shots she faced to record the win for Augsburg.
The two teams conclude their series on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 4 p.m. at Ed Saugestad Rink in Minneapolis.
