WINONA, Minn. – Junior
Johanna Glaaser scored her first goal of the season, but Saint Mary's University downed the St. Olaf College women's hockey team, 2-1, in the Oles' season finale on Saturday afternoon at Saint Mary's Ice Arena.
A Glaaser goal in the second period tied the game at 1-1 for St. Olaf (0-22-3, 0-15-3 MIAC), but Saint Mary's (9-10-6, 6-8-4 MIAC) got a go-ahead goal from Carson Sheridan at the 9:12 mark of the third period to secure the victory.
Saint Mary's got on the board after Carolyn Chrastka scored at the 6:11 mark in the first period, but Glasser answered early in the second period on the power play, with assists from
Kalli McCullen and
Mary Kate Eiden, to even the score at 12:28.
The Cardinals, who will travel to Gustavus in the MIAC Playoffs as the No. 5 seed, broke the deadlock midway through the third period on Sheridan's game-winning goal.
Grace Boswell-Healy tallied 24 saves in the game for St. Olaf, while Ary Ziakas tallied 15 stops for Saint Mary's.
The game was the final contest in the careers of St. Olaf's seven seniors:
Molly Andrews,
Kalli McCullen,
Maddy Johnson,
Xandi Swedberg,
Ali Griffin,
Margeaux Cohen and
Jessica Krysik. Swedberg did not miss a game in her career, playing in all 100 games for the Oles over the last four years, while McCullen missed just two contests.
