Baseball takes two against Cazenovia and McDaniel

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The St. Olaf College baseball team downed Cazenovia College, 9-1, and McDaniel College, 5-1, in two non-conference contests on Thursday afternoon.

St. Olaf (5-2) tallied 15 hits in the game and allowed just three from Cazenovia (1-5), along with two errors committed by the Wildcats.

Tommy McDonald was 3-of-4 at bat and posted two runs and two RBI, and Matthew Muller added three hits and three runs for the Oles. Dylan Blake, Sam Stuckmayer and Bobby Isbell each registered two hits, and Stuckmayer added two runs.

Forrest Kobelt started at the mound and picked up his first season win and had six strikeouts. Elliot Syverson closed out the game and recorded his second save of the season.

After Cazenovia scored a run in the top of the third, the Oles answered with four runs in the bottom of the third off four hits. Muller and McDonald posted back-to-back singles to start the inning followed by a wild pitch that advanced the runners. A sacrifice fly from Sam Pressman accounted for the Oles first run of the game.

Dylan Blake flied out and sent McDonald home to give St. Olaf the lead at 2-1. After a single from Luke Dahl, Jake Ossell reached on an error that advanced Dahl and accounted for two Ole runs from Torbenson and Stuckmayer.

In the fourth inning Muller was walked and McDonald hit a single. Muller scored off of a sacrifice fly from Pressman and Blake picked up an RBI off a single that made the score 6-1 at the end of the inning.

Back-to-back singles from Bobby Isbell and Muller put the Oles on first and second, and both runners advanced off a wild pitch. McDonald doubled and recorded two RBI to extend St. Olaf's lead to seven.

In the sixth Stuckmayer got on base with a single and advanced on a walk, followed by an Isbell RBI single that accounted for the final run of the game.

The Oles held the Wildcats to one hit in the last six innings, while St. Olaf had six hits in the final six innings.

After scoring one in fourth inning, St. Olaf recorded four hits and three runs in the fourth inning to take a four-run lead and held off McDaniel (6-7) to secure the victory.

Pressman led the Oles and was 3-of-4 at bat and added two runs and an RBI. Torbensen added two hits and two RBI for St. Olaf, and Stuckmayer tallied two RBI, one run and one hit.

Hunter Barber started at the mound for St. Olaf and recorded three strikeouts in just over four innings. Despite pitching 4.1 innings, Barber got the win due to a pre-arranged pitch count.

Pressman singled in the fourth inning, followed by a stolen base and an error by the Green Terror's to place him on third. A single from Torbenson put the Oles on the board to take a 1-0 lead.

McDonald doubled in the sixth inning, followed by a single from Pressman that advanced McDonald to third. Stuckmayer doubled and picked up two RBI as McDonald and Pressman crossed home plate to extend the lead at 3-0.

Torbensen followed Stuckmayer's double with a single that accounted for an RBI as St. Olaf took a four-run lead in sixth inning.

After McDonald was walked and stole second, a Pressman single accounted for an Ole run in the seventh inning to make the score 5-0.

McDaniel answered in the eighth inning with three hits and one run, but St. Olaf was able to hold them off in the ninth to secure the victory.
