ST. PAUL, Minn. - The St. Olaf College baseball team opened Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play in a doubleheader against Hamline University, and downed the Pipers, 3-2, and, 4-1, on Sunday afternoon at Koch Diamond.
St. Olaf's (11-4, 2-0 MIAC) Sam Pressman hit an RBI single in the final inning of the first game to take the lead over Hamline (7-10, 0-2 MIAC) and the Oles held the Pipers scoreless in the bottom of the seventh to secure the victory. In the second game St. Olaf had eight hits and held Hamline to five, while the Pipers committed two errors as the Oles picked up their second victory of the day.

The Oles were tied with the Pipers heading into the final inning of the contest and an RBI single to left field from Pressman put St. Olaf on top. Hamline was held to one hit in the bottom of the seventh as St. Olaf recorded the victory.
TJ Rogers and Pressman each had two hits in the contest, along with two RBI from Pressman and a run from Rogers.  Tommy McDonald recorded his first homerun of the season and had two runs.
Hunter Barber threw a complete game from the mound to improve his season record to 3-0, while recording five strikeouts and allowing only two runs.
In the top of the first the Oles recorded their first run of the game after McDonald homered to right field. The Pipers answered in the bottom of the inning and evened the score at 1-1.
Hamline took the lead in the bottom of the second with an RBI single to right field, but St. Olaf responded in the top of the third as Pressman sent a sacrifice fly to left field and McDonald scored.
Both teams were held scoreless in the fifth and sixth inning despite the Oles filling the bases in the top of the sixth.
After two outs in the top of the seventh, Pressman registered the final RBI of the game on a singled to left field as Rogers crossed home plate to put the Oles on top. St. Olaf saw four Piper batters and held Hamline to just one hit in the inning to secure the victory.
The Oles had eight hits in the game and held Hamline to six, allowing just three Pipers to record hits in the contest.

Despite Hamline taking an early one-run lead in the first inning, St. Olaf evened the scored in the third and held the Pipers scoreless for the final eight innings of the game, while the Oles picked up three more runs in the game.
Seven Oles posted at least one hit in the game, including two hits and three RBI from Dylan Blake, which accounted for his seventh game this season with multiple hits. Rogers added a hit, two runs and an RBI, along with a hit and a run from Ryan Torbenson and Jake Ossell.
Sam Westermeyer pitched a complete game and improved his season record to 3-0. Westermeyer had seven strikeouts, while allowing just one run and five hits.
The Pipers scored their lone run of the game in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI double down the right field line. St. Olaf evened the score in the third inning with a sacrifice fly from Blake that sent Rogers home.
The Oles doubled the lead in the fifth inning as Torbenson crossed home plate and Rogers registered the RBI.
In the seventh inning, St. Olaf extended its lead to three runs after a single through the right side from Blake resulted in two RBI.
This was the sixth game of the season that the Oles have held opponents to six hits or less in the contest, each resulting in victories for St. Olaf.
St. Olaf is back to action on Wednesday, Apr. 3 in a doubleheader against MIAC opponent Augsburg University for the first home games of the season with the first game beginning at 2:30 p.m.
