NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The St. Olaf College baseball team fell to Carleton College, 6-5, but bounced back for a 5-4 victory in the second game of a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) twin bill Tuesday night at Mel Taube Field.
After trailing 6-3 heading into the final inning, St. Olaf (17-10, 8-6 MIAC) scored two runs, but Carleton (8-16, 5-9 MIAC) held the Oles off, despite three hits, including a homer from TJ Rogers, in the top of the seventh. The Oles had a four-run fifth inning, including RBI singles from Sam Pressman and Matthew Muller, and nine Knights were left on base in the final five innings of the contest as the Oles secured the victory.

After the Knights scored four runs in the fifth the Oles answered with three in the sixth, but Carleton scored two more and held St. Olaf to just two runs in the final inning to secure the victory.
Andrew Nomoto led the Oles with two hits and two RBI and Tommy McDonald added a hit and two runs.
Carleton recorded two hits in the bottom of the second, but St. Olaf held the Knights scoreless as three Knights were left on base and a catch by Pressman closed the inning.
In the top of the fifth, St. Olaf had two Oles on base after a singles from Muller and Jake Ossell, but were unable to convert.
After four and a half scoreless innings between both teams, Carleton had three hits that resulted in four runs in the bottom of the fifth. A double accounted for three RBI in the inning as the Knights took a 4-0 lead heading into the sixth inning.
The Oles answered in the top of the sixth with three runs off two hits. After two outs and bases loaded due to walks, Luke Dahl singled through the left side and sent McDonald home. Nomoto added a two-run single up the middle to cut the Knights lead to one at 4-3.
Carleton scored on an error and added another run from a single to take a three run lead at 6-3.
In the final inning, Rogers homered to left field and brought the Oles within two runs, and a RBI single from Pressman down the right field line cut the deficit to just one run, but Carleton held off the Oles.

St. Olaf scored four runs in the fifth inning and held the Knights to just one run in the final four innings of the contest to secure the victory.
Rogers, Pressman and Ossell recorded two hits each and Pressman added two RBI. Hanson Devine tossed the first five innings and had three strikeouts, and Hunter Barber pitched the final two innings and recorded his first save of the season.
The Oles took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning as Pressman RBI singled to center field and Rogers crossed home plate.
In the bottom of the fourth, Carleton evened the score on an RBI double to center field. Two Knights were left on base in the inning to keep the score at 1-1 heading into the fifth.
St. Olaf answered in the bottom of the fifth with four runs off three hits. Ossell scored on a Carleton error and a run from Rogers put the Oles on top at 3-1. Pressman singled and sent McDonald home, followed by an RBI single from Muller to increase St. Olaf's lead to 5-1.
In the bottom of the inning, the Knights put two runs on the board and had five hits. St. Olaf was able to hold three runners on base to stay on top at 5-3.
In the bottom of the seventh, Carleton came within one run of the Oles at 5-4. The Knights had a hit in the fifth inning and bases loaded with two outs, but St. Olaf held Carleton off to remain on top.
St. Olaf saw four Carleton batters in the ninth and allowed no hits or runs in the inning to pick up the victory.
The Oles had nine hits and committed just one error in the contest, while the Knights recorded three errors.
St. Olaf is back to action on Thursday, Apr. 25 as the Oles travel to Mankato, Minn. for a doubleheader against non-conference Bethany Lutheran with the first game beginning at 4 p.m.
