Oles drop series finale at Saint Ben's

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The St. Olaf College women's hockey team dropped the finale of its Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) series opener to the College of Saint Benedict, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon at Dave Torrey Arena.

After scoring a hat trick the night before, Mollie Wise netted two of the four goals for Saint Benedict (9-8-1, 4-8-0 MIAC) and Ally Frantzick logged an 18-save shutout to hold St. Olaf (0-17-2, 0-12-0 MIAC) off the board.

For the second day in a row, the Bennies scored once in each of the first two periods to build a 2-0 lead after two, as Wise opened the scoring at the 8:37 mark of the first period and Emily Lemker added a power-play goal at 7:35 of the second.

The Bennies maintained their two-goal lead in the third before adding a pair of goals in the final 1:08 of the game. Courtney Conlin scored an empty-netter at 18:52 of the third before Wise finished off her five-goal weekend with 35 seconds remaining.

Frantzick made nine of her 18 saves in the game in the third period for CSB. Sophomore Ivy Shonka led three St. Olaf goaltenders with 22 saves in the game, while first year Taylor Smith had 20 and sophomore Grace Boswell-Healey tallied 11.

The Oles take on Bethel University next weekend beginning with a 7 p.m. contest at St. Olaf Ice Arena on Friday, Feb. 7.
