Women's tennis opens spring by sweeping Hamline

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – The St. Olaf College women's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 victory over Hamline University to open its spring season with a win on Saturday afternoon at Bloomington Life Time Fitness.

St. Olaf (1-0, 1-0 MIAC) dropped just one set in singles after sweeping the three doubles matches in the win over Hamline (0-3, 0-1 MIAC). Sabrina Barboza and Allie Prokosch paired for a win at No. 1 doubles and recorded straight-set victories at the top-two singles spots for the Oles.

Barboza and Prokosch gave St. Olaf its first point in doubles with an 8-2 victory at the top spot before Ella Hagopian and Teresa Fawcett added an 8-3 win at second doubles. Hamline defaulted the No. 3 doubles match due to a lack of players.

In singles, Barboza did not lose a game in a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at No. 1 singles, while Prokosch lost just two in a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 2 singles. Emily Otteson registered a 6-2, 6-0 win at the third spot and Greta Prokosch posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory at fourth singles.

The lone match of the day to go the distance was the No. 5 singles match between Katherine Ichinose and Bae Wa, which Ichinose won by a 6-3, 4-6, 10-4 score. The Pipers also defaulted the No. 6 singles match.

St. Olaf takes on Bethel on Friday, Feb. 21 at 6:30 p.m. at Owatonna Tennis Center.
