MOORHEAD, Minn. – The St. Olaf College women's hockey team cut a three-goal deficit to one in the third period but could not find a tying goal in a 3-2 loss to Concordia-Moorhead in its season finale on Saturday at Moorhead Sports Center.
Concordia (8-17-0, 6-12-0 MIAC) built a 3-0 lead midway through the second period before St. Olaf (0-23-2, 0-18-0 MIAC) scored in the closing seconds of the second and the opening seconds of the third to make it a one-goal game. After seeing their three-goal lead trimmed to one, the Cobbers held on for the final 19-plus minutes to end their season with a win.
Libby Hinrichs scored the lone goal of the first period at 15:07 to give Concordia a 1-0 lead after one. The Cobbers stretched their lead to 3-0 midway through the second, as Maddie Ellingson scored shorthanded at 2:07 and Brenna Mjoness added another at 8:32.
With the Oles trailing 3-0, senior
Johanna Glaaser got St. Olaf on the board on the power play with two seconds remaining in the second. The goal was Glaaser's second of the weekend and her team-leading sixth of the season, with sophomore
Annika Patterson picking up an assist on the goal.
Just 22 seconds into the third period, junior
Emma Boyer brought St. Olaf within a goal, scoring off an assist from senior
Michaela Crowley to make it a 3-2 game. The Cobbers held on by limiting the Oles to two shots on goal after Boyer's goal.
Sophomores
Grace Boswell-Healey and
Ivy Shonka combined to make 49 saves in the loss for St. Olaf. Amy Jost picked up the victory for Concordia with an 11-save afternoon.
