ST. PAUL, Minn. – The St. Olaf College women's soccer team saw its season come to an end with a 3-0 loss at regular-season conference champion and No. 25-ranked St. Catherine University on Saturday at St. Kate's Field.
St. Catherine (12-1-3, 9-1-1 MIAC) got first-half goals from Amanda Elton and Sydney Nelson and a second-half goal from Rachael Holm on its way to securing the first Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) regular-season crown and the No. 1 seed in next week's MIAC Playoffs. St. Olaf (6-10-1, 4-7-0 MIAC) entered the game needing a win and some help to clinch a playoff berth.
St. Kate's hit the woodwork three times in the opening 20 minutes before breaking through on Elton's 12th goal of the season in the 22nd minute. Lauren Witte earned her first of two first-half assists on the goal and was later the provider on Nelson's 44th-minute goal that gave the hosts a two-goal lead at the break.
Holm gave St. Kate's a three-goal cushion inside the opening 10 minutes of the second half. Both teams had six shots on goal in the game, but the Wildcats converted on three of their six shots on frame.
