WINONA, Minn. – The St. Olaf College women's basketball team picked up its first road win of the season by limiting Saint Mary's University to three field goals in the fourth quarter of a 72-63 victory at Saint Mary's Gym on Wednesday evening.
After the teams were tied at 52-52 through three quarters, St. Olaf (3-3, 2-3 MIAC) held Saint Mary's without a field goal for the first 6:21 of the fourth quarter while outscoring the hosts, 16-6, over the first 7:28 of the quarter to open up a 10-point lead. The Cardinals were just 1-for-16 from the field in the fourth quarter until making a pair of shots in the final minute with the game out of reach.
Senior
K'Lynn Lewis hit four three-pointers on her way to a team-high 19 points and added a season-high six assists in the win. Junior
Rachel Kelly added her second-straight double-double with 12 points and a career-high 17 rebounds for St. Olaf, which had 24 assists on 29 made field goals on the night.
Sophomore
Cayden Botten was 5-for-7 from the field to contribute 11 points and four rebounds in 16 minutes off the bench, while four other Oles had between six and nine points in the victory. St. Olaf led by as many as 17 points in the opening quarter and was on top for 33:56 while trailing for just 2:15 in the game.
Brooklyn Paulson had a game-high 24 points on 9-for-29 shooting and pulled down nine rebounds for Saint Mary's, which outscored St. Olaf by a 17-5 margin at the free-throw line but could not overcome 6-for-28 (21.3 percent) shooting from behind the arc.
The Oles surged out to a 13-2 lead over the first 6:25 of the opening quarter as the Cardinals opened the game just 1-for-10 from the field. St. Olaf opened up its largest lead of the game at 21-4 with 1:11 remaining in the quarter after a layup by first year

The Cardinals extended their run to 13-0 by scoring the first eight points of the second quarter to climb within four, 21-17, with 5:48 remaining in the half. The Oles hit their next three shots on layups by Kelly and Tangen on either side of a Botten three-pointer to push their lead back to nine and carried a 34-26 lead at halftime.
Saint Mary's matched its point total from the first half in the third quarter alone, outscoring St. Olaf by a 26-18 margin to tie the game heading to the fourth quarter. After the Cardinals got within two early in the third, Lewis hit a pair of three-pointers to keep the Oles ahead during a stretch where the teams combined to hit eight-straight shots. The hosts led by as many as four late in the quarter before a late basket by Tangen evened it up at 52-52 through 30 minutes.
St. Olaf was an efficient 8-for-14 (57.1 percent) from the field in the fourth quarter while limiting Saint Mary's to just four free throws until Paulson hit a jumper with 3:39 remaining to make it a 63-58 game. Lewis responded with a basket in the lane before junior
Cassie Fix hit a three-pointer to extend the Oles' lead to double figures, 68-58, with 2:32 remaining. Fix had all seven of her points in the final quarter for St. Olaf.
The Oles host Augsburg in the opening game of a home basketball doubleheader on Saturday, Dec. 11 at 1 p.m.
