ST. PAUL, Minn. – The St. Olaf College women's basketball team fell to unbeaten Hamline University by the score of 58-46 in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) action on Saturday afternoon at Hutton Arena.
Hamline (6-0, 4-0 MIAC) maintained its unbeaten start to the season by holding St. Olaf (3-4, 0-4 MIAC) to 18 first-half points and forcing 22 turnovers in the game. The Pipers turned the 22 turnovers into a 22-12 advantage in points off turnovers to overcome 34.5 percent shooting in the 12-point win.

Sophie Olmen scored a season-high 11 points on 4-for-6 shooting, including going 2-for-3 from three-point range, for St. Olaf, which also got 10 points and seven rebounds from sophomore
Paige Yagodinski. Senior
Rachel Kelly narrowly missed out on her second double-double of the season with nine points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
The Pipers held the Oles scoreless for the first 4:21 of the game as part of a 7-2 start to the game, but senior
Cassie Fix scored five-straight St. Olaf points to help knot the game at 9-9 inside the final two minutes of the opening quarter. Hamline led for nearly eight minutes in the quarter but took just a 12-11 lead into the second.
Back-to-back layups by Yagodinski in the span of 36 seconds brought St. Olaf even at 15-15 three minutes into the second quarter. Later in the quarter, an Olmen three-pointer cut Hamline's lead to 19-18, but the hosts closed the quarter on an 8-0 run over the final 3:46 to take a 27-18 halftime lead.
The Pipers quickly stretched their lead to 35-18 by starting the third quarter on an 8-0 run and maintained a lead of double-digit points until a Yagodinski three-pointer with 6:42 remaining in the game made the score 44-36. The eight-point margin was as close as the Oles were able to get down the stretch.
Following a stretch of three-straight road games, St. Olaf returns home to Skoglund Center to face Gustavus Adolphus College at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 7.
