ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The fifth-seeded St. Olaf College women's tennis team saw its season come to an with a 5-0 loss to fourth-seeded Bethel University in the quarterfinals of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Playoffs on Tuesday afternoon at Ona Orth Athletic Complex.

In a matchup of regionally-ranked teams, Bethel (11-10) swept the three doubles matches – including a pair of close 8-6 victories – and picked up wins at No. 1 and No. 4 singles to end the match with the team result decided. St. Olaf (8-6) was appearing in the MIAC Playoffs for the 13th time in the 15 seasons of the tournament.

Facing one of the top doubles teams in the region, first year Olha Zubarieva and sophomore Anna Secor hung with Grace Riermann and Sydney Rott before falling, 8-6, at No. 1 doubles. First years Sarah Clark and Jane Spading also suffered an 8-6 loss at No. 3 doubles, as the Royals took a 3-0 lead into singles by adding an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles.

The Royals claimed straight-set victories at No. 4 and No. 1 singles in the first two matches to finish to close out the win. When the match was decided, first year Fiona O'Flaherty was one game away from a win at No. 3 singles, leading 6-4, 6-2, while Secor was trailing 2-1 in the third set after splitting the first two sets.
