NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The St. Olaf College baseball team saw its postseason hopes come to an end with 14-0 and 10-3 losses to visiting Gustavus Adolphus College on Senior Day on Saturday at Mark Almli Field.
St. Olaf (15-17, 9-11 MIAC) entered the day needing at least one victory to keep its chances alive of landing the No. 4 seed in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Playoffs, but Gustavus (25-11, 13-5 MIAC) scored 24 runs on 32 hits to lock up the No. 3 seed for the conference tournament.
Bryce Novak and Jack Hanson led the Gusties' offense by combining to go 14-for-20 with five home runs, 10 runs, and 13 RBI over the two games. Novak was 6-for-10 with two home runs, five runs, and four RBI and Hanson was 8-for-10 with three home runs, five runs, and nine RBI.
Between the two games, St. Olaf recognized its six graduating seniors – including two fifth-year seniors – for their contributions to the program over their careers. The games were the final home contests in the careers of

Matthew Muller,
Sam Westermeyer,
Hunter Barber,
Jonah Smithson, and
Forrest Kobelt.
The Oles wrap up their season with a non-conference doubleheader at the University of Northwestern on Monday, May 9 in St. Paul. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m. at Reynolds Field.

Seven of the nine Gustie starting position players had multiple hits in game one, as Gustavus out-hit St. Olaf by an 18-3 margin to claim the opener. Mitch Casperson limited the Oles to two hits and two walks with seven strikeouts over five shutout innings for the Gusties.
Offensively, Gustavus scored one in the second, four in the third, two in the fourth, five in the fifth, and two in the seventh to pile up 14 runs in the win. Hanson homered twice in the opener, hitting a two-run home run in the third and a three-run shot in the fifth, while Novak added a two-run blast in the seventh for the final runs of the game.
Four pitchers worked in the loss for St. Olaf, starting with Barber, who allowed five runs (two earned) on six hits over the first three innings. Kobelt struck out a season-high-tying four batters over his 1.2 innings of relief.

Hanson and Novak both homered in the first two innings to help Gustavus to an early 5-0 lead before St. Olaf got within three with a pair of runs in the fourth. The Gusties pulled away by scoring the next four runs on their way to finishing off the sweep.
Muller picked up his first three-hit game of the season by going 3-for-5 with one RBI for St. Olaf, which also got a pair of hits and a run scored from first year
Justin Isaacson.
A solo home run by Hanson in the first and a two-run shot from Novak in the second opened the scoring for Gustavus, which led 5-0 before junior
Harald Borg got the Oles on the board with an BRI single in the fourth. Sophomore
Joey Glampe drew a bases-loaded walk later in the inning to make it a 5-2 game.
After the Gusties stretched their lead to 9-2, Muller lined a run-scoring double down the right-field line with two outs in the home half of the eighth to score first year
Evan Hammonds, who drew a one-out walk and got to second on a wild pitch.
Sophomore
Sean Goldman had his second-longest outing of the season on the mound for St. Olaf, striking out five over five relief innings. Goldman allowed five runs (three earned) after taking over for Westermeyer, who took the loss. First year
Jacob Fickenscher had two strikeouts in a 1-2-3 eighth inning to lower his team-leading ERA to 2.18.
