ST. PAUL, Minn. – First year
Emily Johnson scored the lone goal of the game early in the second half to lift the St. Olaf College women's soccer team to a 1-0 win at Hamline University on Saturday afternoon at Paterson Field.
Johnson scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season off an assist from first year
Roxanne Rundle in the 53rd minute for St. Olaf (4-4-3, 2-2-2 MIAC), which snapped a five-game winless streak (0-2-3) with the 1-0 victory over Hamline (1-8-1, 0-4-1 MIAC). The win extended the Oles' unbeaten streak in the series against the Pipers to seven games (6-0-1) dating back to 2016.
St. Olaf took 10 of the game's 11 shots in the opening 45 minutes but were unable to find a breakthrough until Johnson got on the end of a cross from Rundle on the right to turn the ball in early in the second half. The goal was Johnson's first in five games after starting the season with three goals in the first five contests, while Rundle collected her second assist of the season to move into a tie for the team lead.
The Oles limited the Pipers to just one shot – which was off target – in the game while generating 12 shots and six shots on goal themselves. Senior
Maddie Black did not have a save to make in picking up her fourth shutout of the season. St. Olaf has conceded just two goals over its last five games.
Next up for St. Olaf is a home game against Saint Mary's University on Tuesday, Oct. 10 at 4 p.m.
