NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The St. Olaf College women's hockey team suffered its second-straight one-goal loss to Bethel University, falling by a 2-1 margin on Saturday afternoon at St. Olaf Ice Arena.
After Bethel (3-1-0, 2-0-0 MIAC) topped St. Olaf (4-2-0, 0-2-0 MIAC) by a 3-2 margin the night before in Blaine, the Royals broke a 1-1 tie with a power-play goal late in the second period to complete the sweep and avenge St. Olaf's sweep from a year ago. Sophomore
Molly Terebayza netted her team-leading fifth goal of the season for the Oles in the loss.
For the second day in a row, Lindsey Albers provided the first goal of the game for Bethel, as she drove towards the net from a sharp angle on the right side and snuck the puck in. Despite being outshot by a 9-2 margin in the opening period, the Royals carried the 1-0 lead into the locker room at the first intermission.
St. Olaf tied the game at 1-1 on Terebayza's power-play goal at 2:39 of the second period, which came on a shot from outside the circles after juniors
Hannah Metric and
Grace Lankas got the puck to Terebayza on the cycle. Metric and Lankas both earned their third assists of the season on the goal.
The score remained 1-1 until Abbie Delong broke the tie with an unassisted power-play goal at 15:26 of the second period. From behind the net, Delong gained control of the puck and snuck to the front of the net to the eventual game-winning goal.
St. Olaf had 15 of the game's 22 shots in the third period but was unable to find another goal. The Oles finished the day with a 32-20 advantage in shots on goal, but Anna Hanson stopped 31 of the 32 for the Royals. Sophomore
Hannah Fritz had 10 of her 18 saves in the middle period for St. Olaf.
The Oles take on Hamline University next weekend, starting with a 6 p.m. puck drop at St. Olaf Ice Arena on Friday, Nov. 17.
