OWATONNA, Minn. – In its first indoor match of the season, the St. Olaf College women's tennis team improved to 2-0 in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play with an 8-1 victory over the College of St. Scholastica on Sunday afternoon at West Hills Tennis & Fitness Center.

St. Olaf (2-1, 2-0 MIAC) matched its largest margin of victory in the series with St. Scholastica (1-4, 0-3 MIAC) by sweeping the three doubles matches before claiming five straight-set singles victories. Sophomore Olha Zubarieva, senior Allie Prokosch, sophomore Sarah Clark, sophomore Jane Spading, and first year Alexandra Berns were all victorious in both singles and doubles for the Oles.

In doubles, the tandems of Zubarieva and Prokosch, Clark and Spading, and Berns and junior Anna Secor all picked up victories to give St. Olaf the sweep. Zubarieva and Prokosch won their No. 1 doubles match by an 8-5 margin, while the other two pairs picked up 8-4 wins.

In singles, the Oles got victories from Zubarieva, Prokosch, Berns, Spading, and Clark to complete the 8-1 victory, with St. Scholastica's lone point coming at No. 5 singles. Spading did not drop a game in her 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 4 singles to improve to 6-0 in singles matches this season, while Berns matched Spading's 6-0 mark with a 7-5, 6-2 triumph at No. 3 singles.

Like Berns, Prokosch claimed a tight first set before having a more comfortable second set, winning a first-set tiebreaker, 7-5, at No. 2 singles before taking the second set, 6-0. Clark earned her fifth singles victory of the season with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles, while Zubarieva improved to 4-1 by virtue of a 6-2, 6-3 victory atop the lineup.
