After shooting 4-for-13 in the opening quarter, the Oles hit at a 63.9 percent clip (23-for-36) over the final three quarters.
Anja Smith matched Kelly for game-high honors with 18 points off the bench for Augsburg but shot just 6-for-20 from the field. Jaley Copin was the only other Auggie in double digits with 16 points on 5-for-8 shooting, including knocking down 3-of-6 three-pointers. Augsburg had just six assists on 21 baskets, compared to 19 on 27 makes for St. Olaf.
Both teams shot under 35.0 percent in the opening quarter that ended with the score tied at 13-13. The Auggies held their largest lead of the afternoon at 13-9 with 1:27 to go in the quarter before the Oles got a pair of free throws from sophomore
Sarah Tangen and a layup by Hegland to close out the period.
St. Olaf got its offense going in the second quarter, shooting 7-for-13 (53.8 percent) over the 10 minutes to grab a 35-27 halftime lead. Early three-pointers from Hegland and Yagodinski helped the Oles establish a five-point lead just over two minutes in and St. Olaf led by as many as nine in the quarter. After Augsburg trimmed its deficit to five, Yagodinski sent the Oles into the locker room with momentum with a three-pointer with 19 seconds to go.
In the third, St. Olaf hit nine of its 10 field-goal attempts but saw its lead shrink by a point after committing seven turnovers in the quarter. The Oles made five shots in a row to open up a 45-34 lead four minutes in and took a 54-47 lead into the fourth despite eight points in the quarter from Coplin.
A three-pointer by Coplin got Augsburg within five, 57-52, just 1:37 into the fourth quarter, but St. Olaf answered with a three-pointer by Yagodinski followed by jumpers by Tangen and Fix to quickly push its lead back to 12 with less than seven minutes remaining.
