Matthew Kulesa, and first year
Brendan Goldman all had two hits in the game for the Oles. Lavin also made the start on the mound and yielded just one earned run (two runs) on six hits over the first four frames.
St. Olaf threatened to score in each of the first two innings, loading the bases with one out in the first and getting its first two batters on in the second, but it was Bethel that got on the board first in the bottom of the second. Trailing 1-0, the Oles drew even for the first time in the fourth when Goldman followed a Kulesa single with a run-scoring double to right-center field.
The Royals went back on top in the next half inning before St. Olaf scored four runs on five hits in the fifth to go ahead. After Hadley and sophomore
Jack Alley started the inning with back-to-back singles, Lavin drove in Hadley with a double to deep center field. Two batters later, Glampe blasted a three-run home run to left off Bethel reliever Aidan Nelson, who had not yielded an earned run in 11.1 innings of work entering the game, to give the Oles a three-run lead.
Bethel cut its deficit to a single run at 4-3 on a two-out, two-run double by Matthew Carlsen in the sixth before completing the comeback in the seventh. Winterfeldt led off the home half of the seventh with a home run to right center and, two batters later, Hodgkin hit one to the same part of the park to end the game.
Bethel 16, St. Olaf 5 (7 inn.) | Box Score
Bethel wasted little time building a big lead in the nightcap, scoring 13 runs on 10 hits in the opening inning on its way to completing the sweep. The Oles outscored the Royals by a 5-3 margin the rest of the way, but the damage was done early.
St. Olaf matched its 10-hit total from game one, getting two hits apiece from Alley, Lavin, and Kulesa. Facing a pitcher who had allowed just three earned runs in 29.0 innings pitched (0.93 ERA), the Oles managed five runs off of Max Sutter, who went the distance on the mound for the Royals.
In the first inning, Bethel batted around twice, scoring five times before the first out and nine times before the second out to get out to a big early lead. St. Olaf got on the board in the third on a sacrifice fly off the bat of sophomore
Evan Hammonds after Kulesa and junior
Brian Nevin singled to put runners on the corner with out one.
After the Royals got two more runs in the third, the Oles had three extra-base hits in a three-run fourth. Alley led off the inning with a triple to right and Lavin followed with an RBI double down the right-field line. Two batters later, Glampe hit his second home run of the day – a two-run shot to left – to make it a 15-4 game. First year
Mason Buck added a run-scoring single in the sixth for St. Olaf's final run of the game after Goldman doubled with two outs.
