NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The St. Olaf College women's basketball team was held to a season-low 37 points in a 45-37 home loss to Augsburg University on Saturday afternoon at Skoglund Center.
Augsburg (7-9, 6-7 MIAC) held St. Olaf (3-15, 2-12 MIAC) to just 32.6 percent shooting (14-for-43) from the field and forced 27 turnovers to complete a sweep of the Oles with the win. St. Olaf limited the Auggies to their third-lowest point total of the season in the win but could not generate enough offense to come up with the victory.
Anja Smith led all scorers with 17 points and six rebounds for Augsburg, shooting 7-for-16 from the field and 3-for-6 at the free-throw line. Kalena Myers added 11 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and nine steals for the Auggies, who shot just 34.0 percent (17-for-50) in the game. Augsburg scored 29 points off St. Olaf's 27 turnovers in the win.

Chloee Smith was the lone Ole in double figures in scoring, finishing with 10 points and four rebounds despite playing just 23 minutes due to foul trouble. First year
Bree Wilkerson recorded eight points and five rebounds, while junior
Sarah Tangen contributed seven points, seven rebounds, and three assists.

Ziling Zhen opened the scoring with a layup just over a minute in, St. Olaf went scoreless for over six minutes until Tangen found Smith for a layup with 2:56 to go in the opening quarter. Two possessions later, Zhen found Tangen for a three-pointer for the final points of a low-scoring first quarter that ended with the Auggies ahead 10-7. Smith had eight of Augsburg's 10 points in the quarter.
St. Olaf scored the first nine points of the second quarter to take its largest lead of the game at 16-10 on a three-pointer by Smith with 7:22 to go in the first half. Wilkerson had four points in the run, but Augsburg held the Oles scoreless for 7:17 after Smith's three-pointer to open up a 21-16 lead before senior
Cayden Botten hit a jumper in the final seconds of the half.
Five consecutive points from Smith capped a 7-0 start to the second half that gave St. Olaf a 25-21 lead before Augsburg answered by scoring the next five points. Later in the quarter, the Auggies put together an 8-2 run to build a five-point lead at 34-29, but first year
Kyla Elsbury sank a three-pointer at the buzzer to make it a two-point game heading to the fourth quarter. The Oles were just 1-for-12 (8.3 percent) from the field in the final 10 minutes, with the lone made field goal coming from Botten in the final minute with St. Olaf down eight.
The Oles are off until a trip to St. Catherine University on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 1 p.m.
