Valleau scores lone goal for women's soccer in road win over Scots

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Junior Chloe Valleau scored the lone goal of the game midway through the second half to send the regionally-ranked St. Olaf College women's soccer team to a 1-0 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) road victory over Macalester College on Saturday afternoon at Macalester Stadium.

After being named the MIAC Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week earlier in the week, Valleau broke the scoreless deadlock with a goal in the 69th minute off an assist from classmate Marit Klagge to give St. Olaf (8-1-2, 3-1-1 MIAC) the win over Macalester (3-4-3, 1-2-2 MIAC). The game was the fifth in a row in the series between the two programs to be decided by a single goal.

Sophomore Roxanne Rundle started the move that led to Valleau's goal, driving down the left wing before sliding the ball infield to Klagge. Klagge beat a Macalester defender to the ball before squaring the ball to Valleau to slot into an empty net for Valleau's fourth goal of the season.

St. Olaf, which was ranked No. 7 in this week's United Soccer Coaches Region IX Poll, outshot Macalester by an 18-6 count overall and a 9-4 margin in shots on goal in the game. In her first collegiate appearance, first year Ava Williams recorded a four-save shutout for the Oles, while Ashlyn Ryan finished with eight saves in the loss for the Scots.

Next up for St. Olaf is a home meeting with Hamline University on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 1 p.m. at Rolf Mellby Field.
