NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The St. Olaf College women's basketball team eased to a 72-38 non-conference victory over Crown College in its home opener on Wednesday evening at Skoglund Center.

Joy Brandenstein were all in double figure for St. Olaf (3-1), which shot 48.1 percent (26-for-54) from the field and 50.0 percent (12-for-24) from three-point range in the win. Meanwhile, Crown (0-5) shot just 28.8 percent (17-for-59) overall and 13.8 percent (4-for-29) from behind the arc.
Yagodinski shot 5-for-9 from three-point range and 6-for-12 from the field on her way to a game-high 17 points while also contributing four rebounds and three assists. Kormann added 11 points, seven rebounds, and a team-high four assists, while Wilkerson provided 11 points and seven boards off the bench. Brandenstein hit both of her three-pointers on a 10-point night for the Oles, who had 18 assists on 26 made field goals.
St. Olaf made three consecutive three-pointers during an 11-4 start over the first five minutes, but Crown trailed just 15-10 after the first quarter after the Polars scored six of the final 10 points of the quarter. Crown did not hit any of its 10 three-pointers in the first quarter but was 5-for-7 inside the arc and had eight points in the paint.
In the second quarter, the Oles shot 12-for-17 (70.6 percent) from the field and held the Polars to a 2-for-15 (13.3 percent) clip. Yagodinski and Wilkerson had eight points apiece in the quarter, as St. Olaf outscored Crown by a 30-4 margin to open up a 45-14 lead at the half.
The visitors started the third quarter on an 8-2 run to bring the differential to 25, but that was as close as Crown got the rest of the way. St. Olaf led by as many as 34 in the third after first year
Grace Gertner hit a pair of free throws for the first points of her collegiate career.
The Oles will head back on the road for a 2 p.m. tip-off at the University of Minnesota Morris on Saturday, Nov. 23.
