No. 8 Blugolds rally past women's hockey for second day in a row

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The St. Olaf College women's hockey team held a 2-0 lead early in the second period before eighth-ranked UW-Eau Claire rallied for a 3-2 victory on Saturday afternoon at Hobbs Ice Arena.

Juniors Solvei Berg-Messerole and MaKenna Beaver both scored inside the first five minutes of the second period to get St. Olaf (2-2-0) out to a 2-0 lead, but UW-Eau Claire (2-1-0) scored the game's final three goals to pick up its second come-from-behind victory in as many days. The Blugolds tied the game at 2-2 after two period getting a power-play goal in the first minute of the third for the game-winner.

Berg-Messerole opened the scoring 1:31 into the second period for the Oles with her second goal of the season, firing the puck into the top-left corner from the left circle after collecting passes from first year Emilie Anderson and junior Molly Terebayza in transition. A little over three minutes later, Beaver fired the puck home through a screen from the left point after a D-to-D pass from first year Bryn Etzell for the fifth goal of her career.

UW-Eau Claire halved its deficit on a goal by Sam Bandholz less than three minutes after Beaver's goal and went on to tie the game on a shorthanded goal by Lauren Ballinger at 18:43 of the second. Ashley Wagenbach netted the game-winner juts 53 seconds into the third period with the Blugolds on the power play.

Junior Carley Tuman recorded 27 saves for St. Olaf in her first start of the season, while Tegan Swanson compiled 14 saves for UW-Eau Claire. The Blugolds were 1-for-3 on the power play, while the Oles were 0-for-4.

St. Olaf will face another nationally-ranked team in Gustavus Adolphus College in its first Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) series of the season next weekend. Puck drop for the opener is set for 7 p.m. at Don Roberts Ice Rink in St. Peter on Friday, Nov. 15.
