ST. PETER, Minn. - The St. Olaf College women's hockey team concluded its season with a 3-0 loss to third-ranked Gustavus Adolphus College on Saturday afternoon at Don Roberts Ice Rink.
After blanking St. Olaf (10-15-0, 4-14-0 MIAC) by a 5-0 margin in the series opener the night before, Gustavus (20-4-0, 17-1-0 MIAC) - the defending national champion - scored once early in each period to claim its 11th shutout of the season. All three of the Gusties' goals came before the seven-minute mark of the period.
Brooke Power gave Gustavus an early lead by scoring on a 3-on-1 rush at the 5:14 mark of the opening period. Emily Olson doubled the Gusties' lead at 5:58 of the second before Kaitlyn Holland closed out the scoring at 6:36 of the third.
Katie McCoy - the all-time wins leader at all levels of collegiate women's hockey - picked up the 34th shutout of her career by stopping all eight shots the Oles got on goal in the game. Sophomore
Carley Tuman stopped 23 shots between the pipes for St. Olaf, which was outshot 26-8 in the game.
The Oles finished the season with 10 wins to record back-to-back seasons with double-digit wins for the first time since 2009-10 and 2010-11.
