ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The St. Olaf College women's hockey team was blanked 5-0 by the College of Saint Benedict in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) series opener between the two programs on Friday night at Ritsche Arena.
Saint Ben's (9-11-2, 5-8-2 MIAC) scored twice in each of the first two periods and once in the final second of regulation to take the series opener from St. Olaf (9-13-0, 3-12-0 MIAC). The Bennies outshot the Oles by a 50-27 margin in the game.
Corinne Brown led the way for Saint Ben's with a three-point night on one goal and two assists, while Ava Stinnett scored both of the Bennies' second-period goals in the win. Aurora Opsahl added a pair of assists as well.
In her third start of the season, junior
Devon Cole tallied a career-high 30 saves over the first two period for St. Olaf before sophomore
Carley Tuman stopped 15-of-16 shots in the third period. Kate Moffat logged her third shutout of the season for Saint Ben's with a 27-save evening. The Oles generated 11 of their 27 shots on goal on their four power plays in the game but were unable to get the puck past Moffat.
St. Olaf returns home for the series finale on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 4 p.m. The game is part of St. Olaf's National Girls & Women in Sports Day celebration, as well as the team's Sophie's Squad game, and Alumni Day.
