ORLANDO, Fla. – The St. Olaf College women's tennis team bounced back from its first loss of the season with a 6-3 win over SUNY New Paltz and a 6-1 victory over Warner University on Wednesday at the USTA National Campus.
After seeing its season-opening seven-match winning streak come to and end the day before, St. Olaf (9-1) picked up wins over SUNY New Paltz (7-5) and Warner (2-12) to improve to 3-1 on its trip to Florida. The Oles went 9-2 across the 11 singles matches to be contested on the day.
St. Olaf takes on Whitworth University in its final match in Orlando on Thursday, March 28 at 8 a.m. CDT.
St. Olaf 6, SUNY New Paltz 3 | Box Score
In the first match of the day, St. Olaf fell behind 2-1 after doubles before winning five of the six singles matches to claim the victory. The match was the first meeting between the Oles and Hawks.
SUNY New Paltz grabbed a 2-1 lead after doubles with an 8-5 victory at No. 1 doubles and an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles. Junior

Elliana Loesch gave St. Olaf a point in doubles via an 8-3 triumph at No. 3 doubles in their first match as a tandem this season.

Alexandra Berns put St. Olaf on top 3-2 with straight-set wins at No. 4 and No. 2 singles before the Hawks tied it up with a super-tiebreaker victory at No. 6 singles. The Oles proceeded to win the final three singles matches, including winning super tiebreakers at No. 3 and No. 5 singles.
Zubarieva logged her team-leading 11th singles victory of the season by a 6-3, 6-4 margin at No. 1 singles before Spading and fellow junior
Sarah Clark followed by winning their super tiebreakers. Spading came back from dropping the first set for a 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (14-12) victory at No. 3 singles, while Clark picked up a 6-0, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7) win at No. 5 singles.

In the evening, St. Olaf downed shorthanded Warner by a 6-1 score, with Spading finishing off a 4-0 day with a pair of wins. Berns completed a 3-1 day by winning both of her matches against the Royals, who had only five available players.
The Oles won the only two doubles matches to be contested by scores of 6-1 and 6-2 to secure the doubles point under the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) scoring format. Zubarieva and Clark moved to 5-3 on the season with a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles, while Berns and Spading won their first match as a tandem by a 6-2 margin at No. 2 doubles.
St. Olaf took four of the five contested singles matches in straight sets and got a forfeit at No. 6 singles to complete the 6-1 win, with Berns, Spading, O'Flaherty, and Loesch winning their matches. O'Flaherty's 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 4 singles extended her unbeaten start to the season to 9-0 in singles, while Spading's 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles pushed her mark to 8-2.
