DECORAH, Iowa – The St. Olaf College baseball team hit four home runs in game two of its weekend-opening split at Luther College on Saturday afternoon at Luther Baseball Field.
After being held to two hits in a 5-1 loss in game one, St. Olaf (3-3) overcame an early 3-0 deficit by scoring in five of its final six innings at the plate in a 13-6 win over Luther (5-3) in game two. The game-two win snapped the Norse's five-game winning streak in the series between the two programs and was the Oles' first win over Luther since 2005. The two teams did not meet between 2005-18.
The two teams play their second of back-to-back doubleheaders on Sunday, March 10. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. in Decorah.

Harry Blum held St. Olaf to a single run on two hits over 6.0 innings to pitch Luther to the game-one win. Blum walked four and had six strikeouts for the Norse, who put together multi-run innings in the fourth and fifth frames.
Sophomores
Brendan Goldman and
Breckin Hadley had the only two hits of the game for the Oles, with Goldman driving in senior
Sam Lavin with a two-out double in the sixth. Lavin also worked the first 5.0 innings for St. Olaf, allowing five runs on seven hits with one walk and five strikeouts.
Both teams had just one hit in the first three innings before Luther got hits from four of its first five batters in the bottom of the fourth to take a 3-0 lead. Josh Matanich delivered a two-run double for the Norse in the fifth inning to cap his 3-for-3 performance at the plate in the opener.
Hadley's leadoff infield single to start the second inning was St. Olaf's lone hit until Goldman followed Lavin's two-out walk with a run-scoring double in the sixth. Later in the inning, walks to Hadley and sophomore
Mason Buck filled the bases to bring the potential game-tying run to the plate, but Blum avoided further damage by getting a ground ball to third.
Blake Jondle threw a scoreless seventh inning to finish off the win for Luther, which outhit St. Olaf by a 7-2 margin in the game. Four Norse had one hit apiece in addition to Matanich's three-hit game.

After trailing 3-0 through three innings, St. Olaf scored 12 runs over the next five frames on its way to gaining a split with a 13-6 win in game two. The Oles hit four home runs in the game, including Lavin recording the first two-homer game of his collegiate career.
Lavin hit two-run home runs in the fourth and fifth innings for St. Olaf, which got an eighth-inning grand slam from senior
Joey Glampe and a solo shot from junior
Evan Hammonds in the ninth. Hammonds reached base four times out of the leadoff spot, going 2-for-4 with two walks, two stolen bases, two RBI, and four runs scored. Hadley also got on base four times by going 3-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored.
Sophomore
Kevin Steel was the benefactor of the offensive outburst over the middle innings for St. Olaf, as Steel picked up his first win of the season after allowing five runs on six hits with three walks and three strikeouts over 5.0 innings of work. First year
Kieran Haaland threw scoreless innings in the sixth and seventh before senior
Brock Brumley got the final six outs.
Luther used a two-run home run in the first and another run in the third to jump out to a 3-0 lead after three, but St. Olaf responded with three runs in the top of the fourth to tie the game. After Hammonds drew a leadoff walk and sole second, Lavin belted his first home run of the game to right to make it a one-run game. Later in the inning, sophomore
Jack Pettit knocked in the game-tying run with a single after coming to bat with two on and two out.
In the fifth, Hammonds singled with one out, stole second, and scored again when Lavin lined a two-run shot to left center. After singles by sophomore
Christopher Woodside and Hadley put runners on the corners with one out, sophomore
Mason Buck pushed the Oles' lead to 6-3 with a sacrifice fly.
The Norse cut their deficit to 6-5 on a two-run single by Matanich in the home half of the fifth, but the Oles got the run back in the next half inning. St. Olaf broke open a 7-5 game with five runs on just two hits in the top of the eighth, with Glampe providing the big blow of the frame with a two-out grand slam. Luther got its final run of the game in the bottom of the eighth before Hammonds hit his first collegiate home run in the top of the ninth.
