BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Four St. Olaf College student-athletes were named one of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Athletes of the Week in their respective sports on Monday afternoon.
Sophomore
Ethan Hess was chosen as the MIAC Football Special Teams Player of the Week, sophomore
Rex Lamb was honored as the MIAC Men's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week, senior
Jonathan Panisa was selected as the MIAC Men's Hockey Offensive Player of the Week, and sophomore
Baylyn Shankman was picked as the MIAC Women's Hockey Defensive Player of the Week.
Hess set St. Olaf's single-season record for made field goals (14) by going 2-for-2 and made all five of his PATs in St. Olaf's 41-34 win over Hamline University on Saturday. The sophomore connected on field goals of 31 and 44 yards, with the 44-yarder matching the longest field goal of his career.
Lamb scored a career-high 23 points on 9-for-12 shooting, including going 3-for-4 from three-point range, in St. Olaf's 76-69 season-opening loss to Wartburg College on Saturday. The sophomore also recorded three rebounds and three assists, while easily surpassing his previous career-high scoring output of 11.
Panisa had two goals and one assist to help lead St. Olaf to a 1-0-1 weekend against Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) foes. The senior scored the game-winning goal at 1:02 of overtime in Friday night's 3-2 victory over UW-Eau Claire before adding a goal and an assist in Saturday's 3-3 tie against No. 12-ranked UW-Superior.
Shankman saved 29-of-30 shots for St. Olaf in Friday night's 2-1 win over UW-Eau Claire, which received votes in the national poll. The sophomore made double-digit saves in both the second and third periods in the win.
